With the DLF Indian Premier League on full throttle it's a battle for eyeballs on television all for the moolah and it seems that the men on field have overtaken the bahus of the box.
IPL isn't really a fight between Test cricket and T20 but actually between Kricket with a K and Kyun Ki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi or Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass Se Tez Hain serials, which are competing with the IPL for prime time viewing.
The advertising rates for soaps are about Rs 80,000 per 10 seconds while for IPL matches it's a huge RS 2 lakh plus for 10 seconds.
That's not all, TRP ratings during match timings show that Star Plus and Sony have lost a chunk of their audiences to the men on the field.
So, the really IPL USP is SRK as owner, team mascot Preity Zinta at all the matches, cute cheerleaders and of course great slam bang cricket.
"It is the best in reality TV so to speak, because we don't know how a game will play out or pan out. You have a realistic game show playing out, it is strong enough programming," said Sneha Rajani, CEO, SET Max.
This game is no longer played on a 22-yard strip, there's a big picture that is unfolding on the small screen. And as of now it seems Shah Rukh on the field is preferred to Shah Rukh in a studio.
