TPTM on same lines as CHAK DE INDIA?

THODA PYAAR THODA MAGIC has managed to net a little over 10 crores over it's opening weekend and though there are comparisons being made with the film's box office performance being akin to that of CHAK DE INDIA (this Shimit Amin film too had boasted of similar collections in it's opening weekend), it is nothing but a classic case of comparing apples with oranges!

Agreed that CHAK DE INDIA had similar numbers being thrown after an ordinary beginning on its Friday release but the world is aware about the fact that the film not just garnered good reviews all over but also great word of mouth. The Shah Rukh Khan starrer led to numerous chats and debates which resulted in an increase in the film's popularity for weeks in succession.

In no time, the film garnered a cult status for itself which resulted in an exponential increase in the film's collections. In nutshell, CHAK DE INDIA was not an ordinary film to create a mass hysteria; it was a classic in the making which got its due once the first few shows commenced.

However, it doesn't need an Einstein to predict that THODA PYAAR THODA MAGIC is hardly a classic in the making. Yes, it has got its share of decent reviews while the word of mouth isn't really bad but that hardly gives the film a chance to start breathing easy! The film still has collections only in a middle range and the path forward isn't without its own set of challenges.

In isolation, JAANE TO YA JAANE NAA and LOVE STORY 2050, the two films releasing this weekend, may not take a stupendous opening but combine their occupancy and hence their box office collections and we are talking about some big numbers here!

What does this mean for THODA PYAAR THODA MAGIC? That until and unless one or both the new releases are really bad and tank over their opening weekend itself, THODA PYAAR THODA MAGIC would have to really struggle hard to make it's presence felt as the second week progresses.

With MEHBOOBA on 11th July, KISMAT KONNECTION on 18th July and UGLY AUR PAGLI on 25th July, audience too would have a plenty to choose from in the month of July. And we are not even counting CONTRACT, MONEY HAI TO HONEY HAI and GOOD LUCK in the same breath, all of which are the other films lined up for release in weeks to come.

Does it still make sense to compare the box office performance of THODA PYAAR THODA MAGIC on the same lines as CHAK DE INDIA
